Fingerprint Login
If your Taurinus personal computer has a fingerprint reader, you can use it to log in instead of your password. The following instructions assume the use of Trisquel, the operating system that typically comes installed on Taurinus computers. Customers who install different operating systems on their Taurinus computers will have to adapt the instructions as necessary.
- Open a terminal by clicking the Trisquel menu in the bottom left corner of the screen, pointing to Accessories, and clicking Terminal.
-
Install the necessary software by typing
sudo apt-get -y install libpam-fprintd
and pressing theEnter
key. You should be asked for your password. Type it and pressEnter
; it will not be displayed as you type it. -
Type
fprintd-enroll
and pressEnter
. Swipe your right index finger over the fingerprint reader in the palm rest as instructed. You should seeEnroll result: enroll-completed
as confirmation that your fingerprint has been enrolled. If not, repeat this step. -
To check that your fingerprint can be matched, type
fprintd-verify
and pressEnter
. Swipe your right index finger over the fingerprint reader again; you should seeVerify result: verify-match (done)
as confirmation of a match. Finally, typefprintd-verify
and pressEnter
again and swipe a different finger over the fingerprint reader. You should seeVerify result: verify-no-match (done)
.
Congratulations! You should now be able to log into your computer using your fingerprint. If you fail to verify your fingerprint within ten seconds, you can still log in using your password instead.
